Chase Anderson Designated for Assignment by Texas Rangers, Kumar Rocker Promoted

Anderson Struggles in 2023 Season

Chase Anderson has been designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers. The move comes after a disappointing start to the 2023 season for the veteran right-hander.

Anderson signed a one-year contract with the Rangers in March, but he has struggled to find his footing in Texas. The 34-year-old has a 5.81 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in eight starts this season.

Rocker Called Up to Replace Anderson

The Rangers have recalled top prospect Kumar Rocker from the Triple-A Round Rock Express to take Anderson's spot on the roster.

Rocker, the 10th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, is one of the most highly touted pitching prospects in baseball. The 22-year-old has a 2.50 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in six starts for Round Rock this season.

Outlook for Anderson and the Rangers

Anderson's designation for assignment is a sign that the Rangers have lost patience with the veteran pitcher. The team is now likely to give Rocker an extended opportunity to prove himself in the starting rotation.

Rocker is expected to make his Major League debut on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics.
