Bloody Bill Andersons Grave Marker

Bloody Bill Anderson's Grave Marker

A Notorious Figure Buried in an Unmarked Grave

William Anderson, better known as Bloody Bill Anderson, was a ruthless Confederate guerilla leader who terrorized the border region of Missouri and Kansas during the Civil War. Known for his brutality, he earned the nickname "Bloody Bill" for the numerous murders and atrocities he committed.

An Unmarked Grave

After Anderson was killed in 1864, his corpse was buried in an unmarked grave in the Richmond cemetery. This was a dishonorable end for a man who had once been the scourge of the Union. However, in 1969, the US government provided a new headstone for Anderson's grave in response to a local request.

A Lasting Impression

Today, Anderson's grave marker stands in the southwest corner of the cemetery. It bears his name and dates of birth and death, a reminder of the bloody chapter in history that he represents. The marker serves as a lasting impression of the brutal nature of the Civil War and the consequences of unchecked violence.
